Miss Jennie: Montessori Children's Garden

About Miss Jennie
Everything about a Montessori classroom fosters independence and self correction and one of the biggest joys for me as their teacher is when I see the children doing things for themselves. It could be something as simple as folding a washcloth or sweeping the floor or something that they have been working on mastering for a long time (like the 100 board or a map). But the pride I feel every day when a child realizes they don’t need help with a task is simply wonderful. I DID IT are my three favorite words.
I love to observe, mentor, mold and guide the children to their full potential. I know each child as an individual and that’s one of my favorite things about the fact that I get to work with these kiddos for three years. I really get to know their strengths and weaknesses.
I asked one of my kindergarten students why he likes coming to school and he told me that he loves his “blue room family”. That’s what it feels like. We are like a little community, with the older children helping the younger children. I love to watch them all working. Some are working independently and some with a friend. They move around the classroom happy and comfortable because they know where everything is and are constantly learning new ways to use the materials.
Music is a huge part of the Blue Room and I have to say that singing songs before lunch is one of my favorite parts of the day. I love listening to their sweet voices and watching them acting out the songs.
"I love miss Jennie because she always goes above and beyond. She is the most kind-hearted person we know!"
